Lithuanian (lietuvių kalba) is the official state language of Lithuania and is one of the official languages recognised in the European Union. There are about 3.2 million native Lithuanian speakers in Lithuania and about 200,000 abroad. There are also Lithuanian Language speakers in Poland, the USA, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, the UK, Ireland and Uruguay.
Lithuanian is a Baltic language which is closely related to Latvian. Its writing follows a Latin alphabet. The Lithuanian language is believed to be one of the most conservative living Indo-European language, retaining many features of Proto-Indo-European now lost in other Indo-European languages
